Street smartness is a quality which develops by being conscious of what is going on, and having a keen sense of awareness while living in certain environments. This quality generally cannot be taught in schools and universities.
However, like many of other things today’s antiquated education system does not teach people, people nevertheless have to pick up this quality in order to first survive and then be successful.
To define street smartness is a little tough. I think it can be roughly defined as knowing “when to do what” and “what to say when”.
One picks up these things mainly by observing and listening. The other teacher of this quality is just plain, raw experience. When one gets burned doing a particular thing, one immediately learns a lesson that should not be forgotten.
